Do you have a favorite electric vehicle?  Why is it your favorite?

I have watched the development of the electric market for some time. I think all brands are great! I would like to say that given our new economic reality and the increased awareness of the dangers inherent in climate change, the time is right to invest in Elio Motors. I saw an Elio at EarthX (Earth Day Texas) in Dallas in 2014. I was captivated then, and I still watch for Elio in the news. I also think there are going to be more people like me: people who work from home and need a vehicle mostly for running local errands (shorter distances), and Elio is perfect for that - also it could be really great for retirees (of which there are a growing number daily).

And although Elio is already highly efficient using gasoline, the time is also right for Elio to develop an electric model and to go public in a big way. Let's go, Elio!

I think the time is right to invest in new technology and local, be it Elio or another option.  I am confident that the more players we have in the game the better off we will be.

I like the Chevy Volt concept and don't understand why that mixed propulsion platform hasn't gained more popularity.  A vehicle that has electric functionality for its first 30-50 miles will satisfy the daily driving requirements of 95% of the vehicle owner's travel.  Then the small gas tank and electric generator can provide the ability to drive on longer road trips and utilizes the existing fuel station infrastructure that has is already in place.

I understand that a 100% battery EV is the gold standard and where we need to get to eventually.  However that requires a build out of a nationwide electric charging infrastructure.  I see the Chevy Volt as a transition vehicle that utilizes our existing energy infrastructure and provides most of the CO2 emission reductions that a full battery EV delivers.

I'm in no way a battery or EV expert so happy to learn from others what limitations the Volt has which have led to its lackluster sales.

I agree.  I have had 3 fully-electric vehicles and now have the Chevy Volt.  I spend most of my day on electric and charge at every opportunity.  There is this "shame" that EV owners have over not being "pure" and I think that in part keeps them from getting it.

I'd love to see the numbers run on if every household had a Volt-type vehicle and how that would change both petrol consumption and improve grid load factors when the vehicle is charged overnight.

As I was telling David before, I'm reviewing the Chevy Bolt EV.  So far loving the Chevy Bolt EV.  It's fully EV and the response to it has been mostly positive so far.  It is long range and delivers much of the driver experiences that many drivers come to expect in a vehicle.

I think as more brands deliver more options some of that "shame", conscience crisis or buyer confusion that comes in with the plug in hybrids and other hybrids will start to evaporate.

I can check into those numbers -- I'm almost positive that I read somewhere that some on had already ran those.

I have a 2013 Chevy Volt and have done two 5,000 mile roadtrips.  Low maintenance.  Low upfront cost.  High reliability.

I love that!  If the chance comes around again, would you purchase the same vehicle, just new or would you choose a different vehicle?

I am actually reviewing the Chevy Bolt EV this week for my website, DallasSingleMom.com.  As far as sales, I'll look into it and see more of what factored into its response.  But as for this one, it's fully electric and such a cool blend of form meets function.  I've only been in it for a day, but so far, I love that it is long range and gets over 200 miles on a full charge.  I'll have to post pictures and more details soon.

Lightyear, because it is solar powered and weighs half of a Tesla, resulting in double the range!

I love the e-motorcycles from Unconquered Customs (unconqueredcustoms.com).  They are the coolest electric vehicles I've seen in a while.  I had a chance to ride one, extremely smooth, quiet and so much fun!!

I need to look into Lightyear.  I love the concept of solar roofs.  I would love to see more of them on the vehicles here.

Definitely the Tesla!  We had an S Model 2013 until 2018 when we traded it in for 2 Model 3's.  They are incredibly smart, reliable, well-designed, comfortable vehicle. Charging at SuperChargers makes long-distance business and pleasure travel easy.

Repeat buying means that you totally fell in love.   What was the maintenance like on it?  Complicated or pretty easy?

There is no maintenance. Software upgrades download automatically from company via wifi that address any changes needed to the program or advancements to the car's programming (e.g. automatic driving). The only reason we've taken the cars into the service center was to change the air filter in the HVAC. ($140 charge) The yearly "inspection" costs only $7. We have to put windshield wiper fluid in occasionally. We'll have to get a new tire if we get a flat in future.
